On June 1, 2010, Albertans will have a new resource to assist them in delivering media and communications in Alberta. RiverCity Productions, an Edmonton-based company, is now in the final testing phase for mediainalberta.ca, an online portal to all things media related in Alberta.
When the site is completed, visitors will be able to search the Alberta media database by basic filters such as by city, by owner, etc. Subscribers to the service will be able to drill down to specific records in the database and to specific editors and, as they wish, distribute their news releases directly to the editors, announcers, producers, reporters and marketing managers included in the database.
Having worked in the media for more than thirty years in Alberta, I know how important it is to have an up-to-date media directory. Some people prefer a printed version, some people prefer online. With this new website and the print version which will both be on sale on June 3, 2010, anyone wishing to get the news out to the media in Alberta will have a choice," says Marilyn Jones, publisher of RiverCity Productions, mediamag.ca, the first online magazine published in Alberta, and the publisher and editor of the print and online Alberta media directory.
I've spent the last three years figuring out how to publish and maintain my media list online so that it is easier for me to offer media distribution services for Full Service Subscribers to mediainalberta.ca, as well as offering the community a cost-affordable self-service solution for getting their news out.
Currently, the online media directory includes more than 850 journalists working in Alberta at more than 495 media outlets. Each record includes the phone, fax and email addresses for news editors, show hosts and producers at 121 radio stations, editors and reporters at 204 weekly newspapers, editors at 128 magazines, assignment editors at 26 television stations and section editors and marketing managers at the 20 daily newspapers published in Alberta.
